ABOUT THE BOOK
Lieutenant John Pearce is in London seeking protection for his friends, the Pelicans, from a reluctant Admiralty. Sitting in the tavern where they were first press ganged, Pearce considers his future. Lacking the evidence of perjury he once had to bring to justice Captain Ralph Barclay, his prospects are not promising. Ralph Barclay’s young wife, Emily, is refusing to live under the same roof as him and she has the means to get her own way: the evidence Pearce believes lost at sea. Pearce’s companions finally arrive in London just in time to join Pearce in fetching a ship laden with contraband back from France, an illegal act but very profitable. Are Pearce and his Pelicans sailing into prosperity – or danger?

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
David Donachie was born in Edinburgh in 1944 is a historical novelist with a particular interest in naval history in the 18th and 19th centuries. He has had a variety of jobs, including selling everything from business machines to soap. A former salesman, of everything from business machines to soap, he is now a full-time writer. He also writes fiction under two pen names, Jack Ludlow and Tom Connery. His first series, The Privateersman Mysteries, is set in the late 18th century and features former navy Captain turned privateer Harry Ludlow. Writing as Jack Ludlow, his Republic series is set in ancient Rome and the Conquest Series is set in the 11th century. He now lives with his wife, also an author, in Deal in Kent.

ABOUT THE READER
Jonathan Keeble combines his audio work with a busy theatre and TV career. He has featured in over 500 radio plays for the BBC appearing in everything from Shakespeare to Sherlock Holmes to Dr Who and is also the evil Owen in The Archers. Much in demand for his voicework, this ranges from playing Sir Christopher Wren in St. Paul’s Cathedral to The Angel of Death in the film Hellboy 2, with stops at all points in between. An award- winning reader, Jonathan has recorded over 100 audiobooks. Jonathan is also the voice for the audiobook of The Joy of Sex, but refuses to say how he got the job.
